Improve your Satellite Reception
One issue which users of satellites must contend with is the issue of reception. Often satellite services provide a wonderful signal, but there are some things which can throw it off, especially severe weather. With that being said, there are some steps you can take to improve your satellite reception on a regular basis and enjoy your television or internet service even more. Make sure that the power is off before touching the satellite dish. Also, avoid using a power washer or any other cleaning method that might knock your receiver out of place.1. Purchase and use a Satellite Signal Meter. You can get a good model for under 20 (such as the Eagle Aspen Satellite Meter for 17.99). By detecting the best position for the satellite signal, you will minimize any loss experienced during poor weather conditions.2. Keep your satellite dish clean. Even accumulated water can cause problems over time, so wipe off any moisture with a dry cloth. If you’re expecting heavy freezing precipitation, apply de-icer liquid, or a non-stick cooking spray like Pam, to the dish beforehand. Otherwise, use WD-40 or a silicon lubricant to remove ice after heavy weather.3. Brush off obstructions like leaves or snow that may have accumulated. Make sure to be very gentle in order to not move the receiver out of alignment with the satellite.4. Re-align the dish to avoid any new obstacles in its surroundings. New buildings or trees may be placed in the way of your satellite dish, making reception difficult if not impossible. In these cases, you can attempt to realign the dish yourself if you have a Satellite Signal Meterotherwise, go to the next step.5. Contact your satellite company. Explain your satellite issues and they will either offer suggestions or send out a technician to address the problem.
